Obituary for George Franklin Herring

George Franklin  Herring
George F Herring was born on Saturday, November 5, 1932 to the late George W. Herring and Leslie A. Herring in Lessie, Florida. He answered the call of God and peacefully passed away on the morning of Thursday, January 10, 2013 in Jacksonville, Florida.
George and Margie Herring were joined in matrimony on June 10, 1960.
George attended school in Nassau County, Florida and finished his education at Peck High School in Fernandina Beach, Florida. George entered the U.S. Army in 1954. He served in the Korean War and Vietnam War with distinction. He earned the Bronze star medal for valor, Purple Heart medal, Combat Infantry badge, as well as the covenant Combat Air Borne Badge. He retired after 21 years. He continued to serve his country at the United States Post Office for 20 years.
George accepted Christ at an early age. He was ordained as a deacon at First Baptist Church, Yulee Florida under the leadership of Rev. W. P. Smith in 1985. George was the Director of the #1 Choir. He was also ordained as a minister at First Baptist Church, Yulee FL under the leadership of Rev. Smith in 1994. He was the pastor of O’Neal Memorial Baptist Church in O’Neal, Florida from 2000 to 2004. God blessed George with an angelic voice to encourage others through praise and worship.
George was preceded in death by his loving wife Margie S Herring and his son George F Herring, Jr., his brother Pervy Herring and his sister, Mildred Chatman.
Those left to treasure his memory are: his son Jackie Herring (Edna), his daughters Jacquelyn Rawls (Ervin), Cynthia Manning (Milton), Juliet Reid (Todd), Nicole Jones (Sterling), daughter-in-law Elease Herring (George, Jr.), sisters, Elease Lawrence (Eddie), and Autry Terry, 12 grandkids and 8 great grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. They will all miss him dearly.
The funeral service for George Franklin Herring will be held 11AM, Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Yulee 86584 Pinewood Drive. The visitation will be 4 - 6PM, Wednesday at the church.
