Obituary for Gladys Tolbert

Gladys Tolbert (Harmon) was born on March 23, 1930 to James A. Harmon and Maud Stewart in Bradley, South Carolina. She later met and married Rufus Tolbert of Troy, SC on April 2, 1948 and they had two children, Rufus and Earthy Lee.

After marriage and starting a family in South Carolina, she made the move to Philadelphia, PA where she spent most of her life. You never caught Gladys out without her having everything looking perfect! She loved fashion and always kept her hair and make-up done. Gladys was a Fashion Icon in our family. Her wonderful wit, infectious smile, and her wonderful stories will be missed.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rufus Tolbert; and daughter, Earthy Lee Tolbert. She is survived by her son, Rufus Tolbert (Betty Jean Tolbert); three grandchildren, Keshia Torruella (Stephen), Joye Roundtree, and Rufus “Trey” Tolbert, III; seven great grandchildren: Ariel, Denver-Morgan, Ethan, Tyler, Michael, Houston, and Paige; and a host of other loved ones and friends.

Gladys Tolbert passed away Thursday, July 16th, 2020. Arrangements in Care of: Funerals by T.S. Warden, 904-765-1234

Deacon Rufus Tolbert and Sister Betty Tolbert, my deepest sympathies on the passing of your mom. I will miss her at church as well as her pleasant spirit. She always brought a smile to my face. Love you all much,
