Obituary for Helen Jiggetts

Helen Jiggetts
Helen Hunter Jiggetts, affectionately called Ms. Helen was born on April 12, 1932 to the late Paul Hunter and the late Pricilla Cook Hunter in Warren County, North Carolina. Ms. Helen was the fifth of nine children, Wilson (d), Paul Edward (d), Richard (d), Mary, Helen, Otis (d), Nellie, Adell and William “Pete” Boyd (d).

Ms. Helen accepted the Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized at an early age, faithfully attending church every Sunday with joy. She was educated in Warren County, NC and graduated from high school in 1952. Ms. Helen met and married the late Walter Jiggetts and later relocated to Brooklyn, NY where six children were born to this union, James (d), Darlene, Steven, Lawrence, Timothy and Danielle. She also raised her grandsons, Vernon and Daniel as her sons.

Ms. Helen faithfully served the Lord and made sure that her children went to church every Sunday. Her children have fond memories of how she would dress them up even when their friends were allowed to wear sneakers and slacks, Ms. Helen believed that God’s sanctuary was Holy and reverent and she wanted to make sure her children understood and respected God’s house.

Ms. Helen was a childcare provider for many years in Brooklyn, NY. She also loved to cook and would fix food and invite family and friends over regularly for family events; she was especially known for her layer cakes and sweet potato pie. In 1988, Ms. Helen relocated to Jacksonville, Florida with her daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and James “Billy” Revell, where she continued to care for children until her health failed.

Ms. Helen was very compassionate and overprotective of the young boys and men in her family. She had an independent personality with a kick of spice. Most importantly, she loved the Lord and served him enthusiastically. On Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 10:09 pm, after fighting a good fight and faithfully finishing her course, the Lord called Ms. Helen to rest with Him eternally. She was surrounded by her family as she took her last breath.

The precious memories of Ms. Helen will live forever in the hearts of her children, Darlene Jiggetts-Revell (James “Billy”), Steven Jiggetts (Teri), Lawrence Jiggetts, Timothy “Timmy” Jiggetts (Gwen), Danielle Rollins, Vernon Jiggetts, Daniel “Shorty” Jiggetts and Elizabeth Jiggetts; grandchildren, Cindy, Robert, Timberlan, Sherese, Matthew, Vanessa and Autumn; great-grandchildren, Vernon “RaRa”, Vernisha, Vernard “Puda”, Danielle “DaDa”, Daniel “Junior”, Vernesha Helen, Vernessa Darlene, Aalyaya, Alaya Leea, Clara and Avah; great-great-grandchildren, Tylan, Yeeshai and Parris; sisters, Adell Banks (Boston, MA) and Nellie Hick (Oxford, NC); sister-in-laws, Katie Hunter (Long Island, NY), Liza Jiggetts, Gloria Jiggetts, Brenda Jiggetts (NY); brother-in-laws, Levi Jiggetts, Thomas Jiggetts (NY); significant family and friends, Yvonne Adams, Sarita Jiggetts and Cheryl Clarke; and a host of sorrowing family members, long time friends, loving church members and dedicated healthcare providers.
