Mr. Guyton taught America History at Fletcher High School, starting in the 1970-1971 schol year. I was lucky enough to be one of his students. At first we did not know how to take him. His teaching method was unorthodax to us. He gave us students far more latitiude than we were used to and we wondered if we were going to learn antyhing from him. Over time, we learned that he was not only teaching us history, but also responsibiity. After our study of Wolrd War 2, when we learned that his segregated unit got stuck in Bastonge in December, 1945, allowing them the opportunity, as he put it, to fight in the Battle of the Bulge, I started calling him General Gutyon. By the end of the year he was referring to me a Major Nusence. Hd was one of those teachers you learned a lot from and one that I will never forgert. I wish today's students could have more teachers like him. Rest in peace General Guyton.
