Obituary for Ida Louise Collins

Ida Louise Collins
On Friday, April 26, 1946, Ida Louise Curry made her grand entrance into this world in Dothan, Alabama. She was born to Eleanor Curry. Ida attended elementary school in Dothan, Alabama and later moved to Jacksonville, FL with her parents, William and Eleanor and attended the local schools here. She was a graduate of the 1964 class of Stanton High School. She worked for Mercury Luggage as a supervisor. Her continued employment included Vistakon, Delta Air Lines and most recently, retired from I.M. Sulzbacher Center. This was her 3rd retirement.

Ida was a former rider of the Jacksonville Trotters Motorcycle Club, known as “Sexy Ida”. She later became a member of the group Riders Motorcycle Club, and lastly a member of the River City Motorcycle Club, known as “Sweetthing”. She was known to share wisdom and motherly knowledge to many people she knew. If you needed anything-food, clothes….she was always willing to help and she did. She had a generous heart.

Ida was more than a daughter, she was the oldest and her mama’s best friend. She was more than a mom; she was a counselor and a confidant. She was more than a sister; she was like a mother to all of us. She wasn’t just a co-worker; she was “Big Sister” to them. She was more than a Nanna or Auntie, she was someone whom everyone loved and respected. She loved her family!!!

On Friday, May 27, 2016, Ida made her transition to her new home. About a week earlier she talked about getting some new furniture. She has it now in her mansion in the sky. She was preceded in death by her brother, Fred Anthony Curry, and sister, Cynthia Gail Mines. She leaves to cherish and celebrate her life: son—Louis Simmons, Jr. (Tiffany); grandchildren: Jacquez Simmons, Zaria Simmons, and Jaylen Simmons; mother– Eleanor Curry Young; brother Keith Curry (Jackie); sisters: Patricia James (Vander), Sonja Alexander (Jeffrey), Juanita (Penny) Curry, Donna Montgomery and Doris Adams; special friends: Jessie Lowe (who was like a brother) Robin Wright, Gloria Daniels and Juanita Gaulden; a special niece—Shontia Carter, who was like a daughter, and a HOST of nieces, nephews and sorrowing friends, whom she truly LOVED.
