Obituary for Irene Louise Rogers

Irene Louise  Rogers
Irene Louise Rogers was born on March 19, 1930 to the late Scott and Willie Mae Johns McCray in Enterprise, Alabama. Irene was married to the late Lessie Floyd Rogers on September 26, 1945 and to this union seven children were born, four daughters and three sons. They were happily married for over 60 years. Irene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Irene was baptized by Brother John Henry Clay at a tent meeting in Enterprise, Alabama. She was a faithful member at the Adams Street Church of Christ, Enterprise, Alabama for many years where she served as a teacher and chaired work on many committees. She was an advocate for Christian Education and a supporter of Southwestern Christian College, Terrell and Texas for many years.

Irene received an award from the Governor of Alabama for her dedication and support for Christian Education. During the last ten years of her life, Irene and Lessie moved to Fernandina Beach, Florida to be cared for by their daughter, Annette Rogers Calfee. During these years she moved her membership to the Northside Church of Christ, Jacksonville, Florida where she was a faithful member until her illness. Irene departed this life February 27, 2018.

Irene enjoyed attending Ladies Day Conferences, traveling with her children and grandchildren on vacation and spending time with family members and friends.

Irene is survived by four daughters, Annette Rogers Calfee of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Alice Rogers Caldwell of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Dianna Rogers Henderson of Orlando, Florida, and Janie Rogers Harris (Martin) of Huntsville, Alabama; three sons, Leslie Floyd Rogers, Jr. of Edgewood, Maryland, Luke Everett Rogers (Virginia) of Jacksonville, Florida and Craig Jerome Rogers of Montgomery, AL; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
