Born Johnny Aikens Jr. on March 6, 1943 to Johnny Sr. and Luella Akins in Fernandina Beach, Florida. He was the ninth of eleven children.
John Jr. attended Peck High School and proceeded to have a distinguished United States Air Force (USAF) career. He was an extremely intelligent man, great leader of men and during his career he worked on several “classified” programs where he used his skills as a Russian and Persian (Iranian) linguist.
On August 7, 2020, he answered his Masters call and entered into eternal rest. He was united in matrimony to Albertha Aikens for 22 years. He was a retired Senior Master Sergeant from the USAF at the time of his death.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory: Wife; Albertha; one son, Johnny Aikens III, (Gloria) of Aurora, CO; two daughters, Jerelynn Natasha Aikens (Brad) of Fernandina Beach, FL and Kimberly Diehl (Marcherie) of Brooklyn, NY; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; Son-In-Law; Clarence Walker of Fernandina Beach, FL; Two Sisters; Ellen Green of Nassauville, FL and Laura Rhodes of Yulee, FL: Sister-In-Laws: Leila Akins of Jacksonville, FL, Mary Jefferson of Ocala, FL; Johnny’s Blended Family; The Brown Family, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and many sorrowing friends.
Johnny was preceded in death by his Father; Johnny Akins, Sr., Mother; Luella Akins, Six brothers; Archie Glaspy, Moses Glaspy, Thomas Jefferson, Joseph Jefferson, Harry Jefferson, Sammie Akins, Sister; Mary Akins Jones and daughter; Brenda Aikens-Walker (Clarence).
He was a loving father, great provider, superb chess player, quick to tell a story, share a smile or tell a joke. He was also an excellent athlete especially as a player on the Mildenhall Marauders’ football team.
