Obituary for JOYCE ANN MCCALL

JOYCE ANN  MCCALL
Joyce Ann Green Lavant McCall was born on September 30, 1943, the third child born to Mack and Emily Green. Joyce received her early education from Oakland Elementary School and graduated from Matthew William Gilbert High School in 1961. She married Roosevelt Lavant in 1961 and from that union she has her adorable only son, Dexter Keith Lavant.

Joyce continued her education by attending Albany State College in Albany, Georgia and received her BSN in 1966 and her Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling from FAMU in 1976. She began her teaching career at Jean Ribault Middle School and later at Sandalwood High School where she taught Health Education. She became a Guidance Counselor at Whitehouse Elementary and retired from Englewood High School after 31 years of service in the Duval County Public School System. In 1975 she met and married William McCall who preceded her in death in 2004.

Joyce departed this life on Tuesday, October 3, 2017. She was preceded in death by both parents; her older sister, Joan and older brother, Mack.

Joyce leaves to mourn: a devoted son, Dexter Lavant (Tamaka) sisters, Janette Underwood and Yvonne Brooks of Columbia, Maryland; brothers, Anthony Green (Lois) and Ronald Green (Linda) of East Orange, New Jersey; grandchildren, Justin Lavant, Dominique Lavant of Hattiesburg, MS, Jahquez (Fudge); five great-grandchildren; cousin, Clarence Fields; Fiancée, Lester Joseph Sr.; goddaughter, Aniya’ Green, and many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins; others mourning her death are Carmen Marie Adkins West, CaSandra Boothe, Betty Redick, Dazzling Diamonds (Dawn McDermott), Tremaine Jackson, and friends from MSSCS.


The funeral service for JOYCE ANN MCCALL will be held 11:00 am SATURDAY, October 14th, 2017 at the Mt. Ararat Missionary Baptist Church 2503 N Myrtle Ave. The visitation will be 5 - 7:00 pm, Friday at the mortuary. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park.
