Mary Ellen Chisholm Underwood was born on February 10, 1943 to the late Henry James and Mildred Brown Chisholm. Mary was a graduate of the unforgettable New Stanton Senior High School Class of 1960. Mary retired from Jacksonville Electric Authority (JEA) after many years of faithful service. After retirement, she volunteered at the school she loved -- Esprit de Corps Center for Learning, where she later became employed. Mary was also a long-time faithful member at Hope Chapel Ministries where she also served on auxiliaries such as Women's Fellowship, Girl Scouts, Public Relations and the ministries' first magazine publication, Berea's Expression.

Mary departed this life on Saturday, September 19, 2015 and was preceded in death by her brother, Henry James Chisholm, Jr.

Mary leaves to cherish her memories a daughter, Tatia Johnson; grandchildren, Dewayne Jaudon (Jessica), and Daphne Johnson; seven great-grandchildren, Tonica Bennett, Robyn Bennett, Dwayne Jaudon, Jr., Zoey Bennett, Jasmine Jaudon, McKenzie Byers, and Tia Jaudon; a devoted sister, Constance “Connie” Herring; a devoted uncle and aunt, Rev. Arbie and Louise Clark; stepmother, Mozell Chisholm; sisters, Claretha McKenzy (Leonard), and Theresa Chisholm; brother, Andrew Chisholm; nephew, David D. Herring (Sandra); niece, La’Trice Williams (Burdette); a host of grand-nephews; grand-nieces, and cousins.


The funeral service for Mary Underwood will be held 11AM, Friday, at the Hope Chapel Ministries 9850 Wagner Rd. The visitation will be one hour before the service. Interment in Restlawn Cemeteries.
