Obituary for Money Turner

Money Turner
On Friday, November 27, 2015, the Heavenly Father called me from labor to rest. I was born on June 17, 1928, to Ida Jane Turner of Weir (Choctaw Court) Mississippi. There I attended the local schools and lived with my grandmother, Sam Ella Turner, until her death. I then moved to Birmingham, Alabama to live with my mother and attended Parker High School. After high school and with no career in sight, I entered into the U.S. Army. Due to not being interested in the fields that were available to me at the time, I took night classes on my own time in order to qualify for better assignments. I worked in the personnel administration field until I felt that I was qualified for something better. I attended the IBM Data Processing School and became a computer specialist. I remained in this line of work until retirement from the military service in 1967. After retirement, I worked for Squib Drug Company until they closed their Washington Distribution Center. I then gained employment with Washington Metro Area Transit Authority (METRO) for the next nineteen years until I retired in September of 1992.

I was a proud member of Ward Memorial AME Church where I was active in the local Lay organization, the J.C. McKinney Brotherhood, and the Wednesday Noon Bible study class. I was also a member of the Prince Hall Masonic Family Jurisdiction of Maryland; Past Master of Enterprise Lodge #3; Past Commander in Chief at Harin Consistory #3; and a member of Jerusalem Temple #4. I was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Department of Maryland and Past Commander of American Legion Post #275, Glenarden, Maryland. I was a member of Local 25 408, Post 7757 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Retired Enlister Association.

As I make my transition from this earth, I will join my deceased daughter, Barbara F. Davis and my deceased sister Geraldine Barnes. I leave behind my true and faithful companion, Mervine Fleet of Forestville, Maryland (“I love you baby”); two beautiful daughters, Doris “Moe” Thomas and Diane “Dee” Lockley (Jacksonville, FL); two sons, Keith Turner (Washington, DC) and Robert “Butchie” Richards (Petersburg, VA). I also leave behind one brother, Gerald Barnes (New York, NY), 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 5 great, great grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
