Obituary for Robert Lee Lester Sr.
Robert L. Lester Sr. a beautiful baby boy, was born on February 28, 1925 to the late Frank L. Lester, Sr. and Josie Hart Lester. He was the eldest of 12 children. Robert chose Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and united with Simpson Memorial United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, Florida under the leadership of Pastor Lawrence Q. Barriner, Sr. There he grew with the knowledge of God and sought his will for his life.
Robert attended the public schools of Columbia County, Florida and graduated from Richardson High School. He furthered his education at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Robert was united in holy matrimony on July 29, 1956 to Hattie Collins. They spent 61 wonderful years together. This union was blessed with 6 children. He retired after 39 years of being a long distance truck driver with Winn Dixie. After retiring Robert enjoyed working on electronics. He was a member of the Live Long and Like it Senior Club and enjoyed traveling.
On Thursday morning, March 15, 2018 at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida our gracious Father granted Robert Lee Lester Sr., entry into his Kingdom, where he can behold the beauty of his presence throughout eternity. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Frank L. Lester, Jr., Betty J. Evans and Madene Powell.
Robert leaves to cherish a lifetime of precious memories by his loving family: a devoted wife, Hattie L. Lester; four sons, Clarence (Pat) Bellamy, Robert L. (Jackie) Lester, Jr., Lenard (Olivia) Lester, Hoseha (Sylvia) Lester; two daughters, Charlotte Lester-Holsey and Debora Lester; 6 grandchildren, Robert L. Lester III, Latoya (Muhammad) Smith, Gregory (Tierra) Holsey, Jr., Jovan Holsey, Christopher Bellamy and Eric Bellamy; 3 great-granddaughters, Jadynn Williams, London Holsey and Zoey Lester; 1 great-grandson, Malcolm Smith; brothers, Fred Lester, Johnnie Lester and Harold Hart; sisters, Mary Howard, Joan Jones, Cozzie Wilson, Selena Pittman, Ethel (Charles) Vaughn; brother-in-laws, Johnnie (Diane) Collins, William Pittman, Jr.; sister-in-laws, Annie B. Newsome, Ella Collins, Mary Langston, Leola (Johnnie) Speights, Doris Collins; godchildren, Verneatrice (Anthony) Winns, Rev. Tommie (Monique) Rodgers, Avery (Ronalda) Anderson, Carolyn L. (David) Brown and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
