Obituary for Rodney Cummings

Rodney Cummings
Rodney was born on September 8, 1951 to the late George and Elizabeth Cummings, along with his twin brother Ronald in Jacksonville, Florida. He received his education from the Duval County Public Schools System, graduating from New Stanton High School in 1969. At an early age Rodney accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a member of St. Matthews Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida, where he was later baptized.

Rodney learned at an early age, that being a dedicated employee and working hard was the only way to succeed in life. He was a Production Technician with Dade County Container Company and was employed there for 23 years before retiring.

Rodney and Ronald have been best friends since birth. Being so close, Rodney decided to move with Ronald to Richmond, Virginia in September 2009, they became inseparable. They relocated to Montross, Virginia where Rodney was an active member of Morning Star Baptist Church and a faithful servant in the Missionary Ministry. The Meals on Wheels mission was very important to Rodney as he looked forward to giving back to the Montross community.

Rodney was diagnosed with leukemia in 2005. He battled this horrible disease with all his strength. He fought a very though fight. Although, he was tired near the end, Rodney still desired to spend time with his family.

Rodney was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. He enjoyed watching them play every Sunday. For Rodney, family always came first. He would do anything to support them and that’s what made him happy. Family was his primary focus and he cherished his time with them.

On Monday, April 2, 2018, Rodney Cummings peacefully transitioned into eternal life at the age of 66. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Cathy Cummings.

Rodney will be deeply missed by his daughter, Renee Gundy; grandsons, Ayden and Ethan Brown; brothers, Raymond Bentley, Ronald (Brenda) Cummings and Faheem (Deborah) Rasheed; sisters, Betty Reddick and Barbara Daniels; a very dear friend, Elsie Peppers; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
