Rutha Mae Gaskins was born on August 12, 1940 in Gainesville, Florida to Robert M. Phillips and Earlene Richards. She attended the local schools in Duval County graduating from Matthew W. Gilbert High School. Rutha later met and married Jessie J. Gaskins, Sr. and from this union three sons, David L. Gaskins, Jessie J. Gaskins, and Wesley J. Phillips; and three daughters, Sharon D. Phillips, Montecella Daniels, and Cynthia Williams were born.


Rutha departed this life on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 and she was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie J. Gaskins, Sr.; mother, Earlene Jones; and brother, Malcolm Jones.


Rutha leave to cherish her memories her sister, Delores Weston, children, Wesley J. Phillips (Fatima), Sharon McClendon, David Gaskins (Dorcea), Jessie J. Gaskins, Jr. (LaDonna), Montecella Daniels, Cynthia Williams (Cesear), and Curtis Daniels; grandchildren, Wesley Phillips, Lashaundra Phillips, Zineb Phillips, Samantha Phillips, Tory NewKirk, Jarvis Williams, Aarron Phillips, Derrick Phillips, Shawn L. Daniels, Garrett Daniels, Zion Daniels, Dennis Burns, Adrian Burns, Sr., Adrian Burns, Jr., and Andria Burns; godchildren, Kenny Willis, Sydney Montford, Sandra Orange, Cynthia Bryant, Kirk Clark, Debbra Clark; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

The funeral service for RUTHA MAE GASKINS will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, September 29th, 2015 at the Greater Macedonia Baptist Church 1880 Edgewood Ave West The visitation will be one hour before the service.
