Obituary for Sallie Belinda Smith

Sallie Belinda  Smith
Sallie or Madea as many knew her was she born in Cuthbert, Georgia on March 6th 1923, and was the seventh and youngest child of the late Hayward Dixon and Saphronia Odum Dixon.

In 1943 she left small town life of Cuthbert, Georgia and planted her roots in Jacksonville, Florida. In her earlier years, Sallie Smith was an entrepreneur in her own right, holding and maintaining small store into the late fifties and diner which double has a barbecue joint with her late husband Wille Smith. But her vigorous work ethic and even stronger tenacity didn’t stop there, in date she worked as CNA - Nurse, a brief stint as a prison guard for University Hospital and 10 years at Duval County Public School.

On Friday, March 2, 2018 at 3:50pm, God called Madea to rest. She was a loving mother of two children, May Orr and a son who preceded her in death Roosevelt Lee.

Sallie leaves her loving memories to May Orr, her grandchildren Sophia Bess, Bernard Lee, Vanesa Farrah, Roosevelt “Anthony” Lee (Holly), Sylvia Scott, an abundance great grandchildren Robert, Charde, Bernard Jr, Shelton, Meka, Joshua, James, Arzolia III and a host of Nieces and Nephew, Herman Dixon (Glory); Sallie Vonn Ponder (James), Jenette Dxion, Gloria Dixon, Curtis Dixon (Eliane), Angelia James; Sister-in-law, Arie Lee Dixon. Grand Nieces and Nephews Sonya, Rick, Candace, Janada, Herman, Marcus, Josh, Bert, Cedric, Tissha, Dominique and Brittany. Great great grandchildren Lester, Ricky, Daniel, Joseph, Kimani, Daylina and a host a close friends: Mr and Mrs. Lemmie Buckles, Ms Viola Senior, Laura Callahan, Mrs Tina Randolph, Mrs Helen Conyers, Mr. Cecil.
