Obituary for Samuel Norman Jones

Brother Samuel “Butch” Jones, son of the late Staff Sgt. Samuel and Lois Cole Jones was called home on February 5, 2015 at the Veterans Hospital in Gainesville, Florida.

Samuel attended Pine Forest Community School and graduated with the Class of 1966. He left Callahan and joined the United States Army in 1967. He served in the Vietnam War as a Combat Medic and returned from Vietnam in 1969.

Samuel joined Greater Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist church at an early age, under the leadership of the late Rev. C. W. Whitten. When he returned back to Callahan, he re-established his membership under the late Rev. C. J. Brown. He had a special and unique relationship with his pastors, the late Rev. C. J. Brown, Rev. Charles E. Williams, Jr. and Rev. Reginald R. Edwards, Sr.

Samuel was preceded in death by his parents, Staff Sgt. Samuel and Lois Jones and his brother, Richard Arthur Jones.

Samuel leaves to cherish his memories a devoted aunt, who raised him, Mother Ophelia Morgan Judson, of Callahan; one son, Steve Jones; two grandchildren, Joshua (Melissa) Jones, Sr. and Malik Green; great-grandchildren, Destiny Jones, Joshua Jones, Jr. and Ray Ray Jones; four sisters, Joyce (Arthur) Williams, Petersburg, VA, Denise King, Washington, DC, Lois King, Alexandria, VA, Dale King, Fort Washington, MD; five brothers, devoted Bruce E. (Stephanie) Jones, Richmond Hill, GA, Fredrick (Jammie) Jones, Chesapeake, VA, Frank King, Dennis King, Darl King all of Washington, DC; devoted cousins, Deacon Edmond Morgan and Terry Walker; a loving and devoted friend, Mariah Whigham, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many sorrowing friends Special thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of the Veterans Hospital of Gainesville, Florida.



The funeral service for Samuel Norman Jones will be held 11AM, Saturday at the Greater Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church 45031 Historical Lane, Callahan. The visitation will be 5 - 7PM, Friday at .
