Obituary for Verlee Suggs

Verlee  Suggs
One amazing woman has graced this earth and passed on, Mrs. Verlee Suggs also known as Mama Suggs, Grandma Suggs and many other loving names. She lived a full life because she served well her generation by the will of God. She served the wealthy and fed the homeless. A Proverbs 31, woman to say the least who kept serving others and teaching the word of God until she was unable to serve.
Mrs. Verlee was a good mother to her children and her extended families all over the city. She was a master chef, smart business woman, and a caterer in the city and surrounding communities.
Mrs. Suggs was a devout member and leader for more than 65 years at Mt Ararat Baptist Church where she served on numerous committees including Superintendent of Church School, President of Deaconess Board, President of the Senior Women Ministry, and Chair of Anniversary Committee as well as the Queen of Mt Ararat Baptist Church. She taught lessons at Church Schools, Woman’s Day, State Conferences, National Baptist Conventions, and Church School Anniversaries throughout the city and the country.
Mrs. Suggs was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Joseph P. Suggs, Sr., daughter Linda Suggs Corbin and great grandson Ryan Williams, her sisters Lila Clack, Annie McNealy, Evelyn Leonard, and brother Anderson Langston.
She is survived by 3 sons Dr. Chester Suggs (Jimmie) San, Antonio Texas, Joseph Suggs Jr. and Percy Suggs, Jacksonville, Fl. 3 daughters Joann Suggs, Cincinnati, Ohio, Gloria Williams and Deloris Milton Jacksonville, Fl. who were also her caregivers. 1 sister Mary Tate, 1 Sister-in-law Rachel Suggs Pitts, Seattle WA., 18 grand Children, 34 plus great grand’s and 9 plus great great grand’s and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and loving friends.
The funeral service for Verlee Suggs will be held 11AM, Friday at the Mt Ararat Baptist Church 2503 N Myrtle Ave. The visitation will be Thursday 5 - 7PM at the church.
