ROBERTS Mrs. Virene Mason Roberts, 97, passed away early Sunday Morning, February 14, 2010. God called and she answered his call. He sent his heavenly chariots down to escort her into his presence. She was born on November 7, 1912 and was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville, FL. She was the daughter of the late William Henry Mason and Idella Thomas. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Rev. Leonard J. Roberts. She leaves to cherish her memories 3 daughters, Jacquelyn V. Brown, of Washington DC, Idella Roberts, of Antioch, CA and Pecola Wiggins, of Jacksonville, FL; 5 sons, Leonard Roberts, of Antioch, CA, Anthony Roberts, of New York City, Bertram Roberts, of Atlanta, GA, Elijah and Paul (Shirley) Roberts, of Jacksonville, FL; 1 sisters Lessie Mason; 1 stepson Howard (Margie), of McDonough, GA; 15 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many beloved and sorrowing friends. Virene was a pillar of the community, a kind and loving person, a mentor to many children and young adults alike as she was a positive role model. She organized the Floradale HOME Extention Club, and the neighborhood 4-H Club of America, where she taught them about gardening, growing food and flowers. She loved her church family where she served faithfully in the Women Missionary Society, Stewardess, Trustee, Mother of the church and church secretary for many years. She was also an ordained Deaconess of the A.M.E. Church
