Mr. Willie James Shipmon, age 80, died at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, on Sunday, March 9, 2014 after an extended illness.

He was born on September 5, 1933, in Norristown, Georgia, to the late Willie Mae Wright Shipmon and the late David Cornelius Shipmon. He later moved to Jacksonville, Florida where he resided until his death. He worked many years unloading trucks at Jax Fruit Company.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Melvin Shipmon and three sisters, Jennie Pierce, Novada Johnson, and Mae Sallie Demery.
Survivors include his son, Bobby Brown, Jacksonville, FL; two daughters, Felicia (Dwain) Hughes, Loganville, GA, and Beatrice (Michael) Hansley, Swainsboro, GA; three sisters, Mabel Anthony, Vidalia, GA, Barbara Phillips, Swainsboro, GA, and Louise (Rayford) Bell, Albany, GA; seven grandchildren, Bobby Brown, II, Farren Renee Brown, Skylar Michelle Brown, Shacoby Pryor, Devin Hughes, Delicia Hughes, and Mikella Hansley; one great-grandson, Robert Freeman, III; a dedicated niece and caregiver, Cynthia Jackson, Jacksonville, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The funeral service for Willie James Shipmon will be held 11 AM FRIDAY at the Samuel C. Rogers Jr. Memorial Chapel, 810 West 44th St . The visitation will be one hour before the service.
