Remembering Ed Lawson

Mr. Lawson was an assistant principal at John E.Ford Career Center while I taught there from 1974 to 1979. He helped me, as a new teacher, recognize and manage the needs of students sent to us with discipline problems. It was always a pleasure to see him at the Annual Shrimp Festival. Later we connected when my husband, Oliver, worked in a program at Lee High School with Mrs. Lawson. Our final meeting was at a Hampton Alumni gathering(2003)for current Jacksonville students making their "home by the sea". Our son Lawrence McNair was among those students recognized. Both Mr. and Mrs. Lawson were delighted to see us. In all our encounters, he was always kind, respectful and a gentleman...even when his back caused so much pain that he could not bend to pick up a dropped pen...he was apologetic. Thanks for educators like Ed Lawson! Oliver and Christine McNair
