Mr. Gus Sumter, Sr., departed this life Sunday, September 29, 2013 at his home. He leaves to cherish his memories, Juanita Sumter, a loving and devoted wife; three daughters, Dorothy (Aaron) Rollins of Archer, FL, Sarah (Charlie) Tolbert and Shelia Sumter of Jacksonville, FL.; four sons, Gus Jr. (Rosalyn) Frederick, Maurice and Bryan Sumter, all of Jacksonville, FL.; three sisters, Sarah Parson and Louise Morant of South Carolina and Modlee (Johnny) Kelty from St. Petersburg, FL.; two brothers, Joe (Janie) Sumter of South Carolina and Robert L. (Queen) Sumter of Jacksonville, FL.; and a host of other loving relative and friends. The funeral service will be held 11AM, Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah' s Witness . The visitation will be October 4th at 5 - 7PM at the mortuary. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery. Please sign the family guest book and view the video tribute @ www.tswarden.com. Life Story for Gus Sumter

Mr. Gus Sumter, Sr., departed this life Sunday, September 29, 2013 at his home.

He was born January 16, 1929, to the late Joe and Lettie Sumter in Williamsburg County, South Carolina. He attended Macedonia and Bethel School. He was employed by Atlantic Coast Line Railroad from 1945, retiring in 1958, and Southern Ornamental Cast Stone from 1959, retiring in 1996. He was united in holy matrimony to Juanita Curtis in 1958 and unto this union seven children were born. They shared 55 loving years of marriage.

He leaves to cherish his memories: Juanita Sumter, a loving and devoted wife, three daughters - Dorothy (Aaron) Rollins of Archer, FL. Sarah (Charlie) Tolbert and Shelia Sumter of Jacksonville, FL., four sons – Gus Jr. (Rosalyn) Frederick, Maurice and Bryan Sumter; all of Jacksonville, FL., three sisters – Sarah Parson and Louise Morant of South Carolina and Modlee (Johnny) Kelty from St. Petersburg, FL., two brothers – Joe (Janie) Sumter of South Carolina and Robert L. (Queen) Sumter of Jacksonville, FL. two sister-in-laws - Barbara J. (Otis) Boykin of Archer, FL. Oranell ((Medard) Cazaubon of Orlando FL., four brother-in-laws- Leonard (Geneva) Shaw, Ralph, Cevaughn (Ola Mae) and Berton Curtis, all of Archer, FL. 9 grands, 17 great-grands, 1great-great-grand, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many sorrowing friends
