Obituary for Johnnie Lewis Glanton

Johnnie Lewis Glanton
Johnnie Lewis Glanton, better known as JOHN, was born to Mary Ellen Cook Glanton and Willie Lee Glanton, Sr., on September 23, 1949. His parents preceded him in death. He was the youngest of six children: four girls and two boys.

John accepted Christ at an early age. He attended Jerkin High School, in Perry, FL and graduated in 1967. He went on and attended Allen University in Columbia, SC on a football scholarship. While at Allen University he became a member of the fraternity Alpha Phi Alpha Incorporated. He graduated in 1971 with a degree in applied science of Business Mathematics. He was employed with Coca – Cola Bottling Company for five years as market manager. Later, went on to work for Bellsouth that is now AT&T until present. Also he managed his son Johnny’s music career.

He was a civil rights activist and active in Operation Push and the NAACP. John Lewis, as his childhood friends knew him, sat on different boards and volunteered his services with different youth organizations. He was recognized with numerous Awards of Excellence throughout his career with AT&T. John’s favorite pastime was fishing, bowling, cooking and music.

We all have our “John memories”. Whether it was a wise philosophical saying he shared, a lesson he patiently taught, or how he impressed you with his vast vocabulary and his love for life.

John was a jack-of-all-trades, and mastered many. He could do anything he set his mind too. His laid back manner made him easy to love, but everyone knew he would always have the last word. May our memories always keep John alive in our hearts.

John was the father of two sons Johnal F. Glanton born of Sharron Higdon-Lewis, Phila. PA. John later met and married Lucille Green and to this union was born one son Johnny Wilhara Glanton of Atlanta, GA.

He leaves to cherish his memories four sisters Bernice Fischer, Temple, TX, Mary Glenn (Jack), Hayward, CA. Louise Dumas (Isaac), Phila., PA, Beulah Ware (Daniel), Indianapolis, IN, one brother Willie Lee Glanton, Jr. (Faye), Orlando, FL, one adopted sister Sandy Taylor (Steven), one adopted brother Rob Pindart, two uncles Prince Vernon Glanton, Melbourne, FL, Johnny Frank Glanton (Debra), and one aunt Mother Lucille Stockton, Cross City, FL, and a host of nephew, nieces, family and friends.
