Obituary

Obituary for Lorria Faye "Penny" Young (Adams)

Lorria Faye “Penny” Young was born on October 1, 1958 in Jacksonville, Florida to Theodore O. Adams, Sr. and Edna L. Williams. She confessed Christ and united with St. James Missionary Baptist Church in St. Augustine, FL where she was baptized by Reverend Nathaniel Jackson and served as the choir director.

Lorria attended school in Jacksonville and received her diploma from Jean Ribault High School as a graduate of the Class of 1976. After returning to the United States in 1985, she was employed at Southern Bell, the US Post Office and eventually retired from the Internal Revenue Service.

Penny unquestionably loved the Lord. Her love for family ran just as deep. She was a collector of various items of great sentiment such as owls, tea pots, jewelry, and fine crystal but most of all, PEOPLE! Regardless of where her feet trod, she always found family; families and children that she called her own. She lived her life without regret and walked confidently in her gifts, most noteworthy, singing. Her natural 1st soprano voice was impactful and regarded. She served as choir director while stationed in Germany also in various churches throughout her travels. Her smile was perfect and infectious. Her skin was smooth as a new “penny”. So whether you called her momma, sister, Penny, Lorria Faye, aunite, grandma or friend, you will all agree that her heart loved hard, she lived the best she could and she definitely, sung her song.

Penny departed this life on December 29, 2019 and was preceded in death by: Mildred V. McKenzie (maternal grandmother), Theodore O. Adams, Sr. (father), and Dwight R. Adams Sr. (brother).

She leaves to mourn her passing: three daughters, Joy Young (Lashay), Angela Young (Willis), and Virginia Young (DeWayne); eight grandchildren: Dajuan Cheeks, Abigail Young, Keyonne Hartsfield, Marcus Jones, Kelis Ingram, Kalia Ingram, Phoenix Washington, and Wisdom Washington; mother, Edna Adams; brother, Theodore Adams Jr. (Alma); four sisters, Regina Taylor (Charles), Gail Thompson, Teresa Butler (Eugene), and Darnetta Franklin (Ed); nieces and nephews: Melissa Brisbane, Clarence Taylor Jr., Rico Cheeks, Symone Adams, Alexus Adams, Dwight A. Adams, Jerome Adams, Keya Adams, Lakita Adams, Teleisha Adams, Daquan Adams, Nakiyah Adams, Brandon Adams, Robbye Addison, Brisbon Addison, and Corey Farmer; great nieces and nephews: Ashley (Quadrey), Aszloyn, & Adam Brisbane, Clarence III, Cameron, and Ka’ni Taylor; Children in Love: Nicole, Joseph and Mark Brown, and Eric Dandy; and a host of other relatives, Godchildren and friends.

Momma,
I'm at a lost. I knew one day we would be here...but not this soon. I didn't expect to live without you. Even with our difference in opinions, I felt and knew you cheered me on. What now? Act like you are just a phone call away? Act like I didn't need better yet want you? You conditioned me to be an adult early..but I would just ask questions or ask for help just so that you know I still needed you. I needed you to hold on a little longer to meet Abigail. I needed you to hold on longer until you got that house you have been planning for so that I can come cook thanksgiving dinner and all your kids and grand-kids would be there. However, the truth is, it would have hurt you more to keep living... you have your peace, your mansion and your rest. I will always cherish your sacrifices, love and life you have given me. No more crying right? See you in glory pretty girl!
