Obituary

Tonya Latrice Anderson, the youngest of two children, was born on January 22, 1969 in Jacksonville Florida to Willie James Anderson and the late Bernice Anderson. She was educated at Andrew Jackson High School in Jacksonville Florida. Upon graduating from high school, she began work at the Department of Children and Families as a case worker, a position that she held for over 25 years. She accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Later in life, she continued to honor God by joining Philippian Community Church and eventually Mount Sanai Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her illness prevented her from attending, yet she continued to worship the Lord. Our beloved Tonya, surrounded by family and friends, departed this earthly life and went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, November 17, 2019. She was preceded in death by her precious grandparents, Jack Banks, Eugene Hardeman Sr., and Sallie Mae Hardeman.

Tonya was a devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her children, her sister and grandchildren. She had a lot of class and style and would always be dressed to impress in her very best. She loved to laugh and to make others smile. Her favorite thing to do was cook, making sure everyone ate or had a snack. She found immense joy being around family, having a good time filled with laughter and good music. Brightening others day truly brought joy to Tonya’s heart. Each morning, even during her illness, she would send inspirational messages to family and friends.

Tonya leaves to cherish her memories: amazing daughters, Victoria Bradley and Danisha Carson (Jarvis); loving sons, Preston Anderson and Michael Anderson (J’nae); siblings, Bridgette Anderson and Earl Thomas; six grandchildren, Keymoni Lindsey Anderson, Kinsley Carson, Kelsey Carson, Braelyn Carson, Micah Anderson, and Jaela Anderson; grandmother, Janie Banks; aunts Alice Austin, Lorraine Wilson Cross (John), Dorothy Hardeman, Minnie Powell (Warren) and Florina Seward; uncles, Richard Anderson, Walter Anderson, Leroy Hardeman and Ralph Taylor; niece, Shawanna Johnson (Keone); nephews, Richard Anderson (Jh’Nia), Tommy Anderson (Trenique), and Carnell Walls; devoted friends Glenda Watson, Janice Durham, Tiffany Dixon, Stacey Byrd, and Cynthia Stallings; and a host of uncles, aunts, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.

To Bridgette: We were saddened to hear of your sister Tonya’s passing... and we extend our deepest sympathy to you and the entire Jacksonville family during this most difficult time. Through our beloved friendship with your uncles, Leroy and Ralph in Southern California, we walk with you in the spirit of love as extended family… and we partake in your sorrow as you seek God's mercy and compassion for the strength to endure through this most burdensome of life’s valleys. But please remember, in the midst of God’s grace that binds us all, that Tonya was not taken from you, but rather taken by God unto Himself. How awesome is the love with which He so rewards us, one by one by one… as it is impossible to walk from this life under our own power to the glory of God’s eternal salvation. That He gifted her to you, even for this earthly span of a little while, our God can never be thanked enough. In so sharing her life in love, you have been both blessed and highly favored, and undoubtedly so do remain. For all of life's precious gifts, we must dance as David danced, and enter into God's gate with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Stay encouraged and may God's peace, which surpasses all understanding... for you and all of Tonya's loved ones... guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus! Though your heart may tarry to let her go, this life is but for the briefest of time. The best is yet to come.
